Learn to Draw makes printable drawing books that teach children real pencil drawing, one small step at a time, inside a story they want to finish.
Most children who say they can't draw have simply never been shown how. They are handed a blank page and told to be creative, or given tracing sheets that teach copying. We think drawing is a skill like reading: learnt in small, clear steps, practised a little every day.
So every book is a 10 day adventure. Each day starts with a short chapter of the story, a warm up for the drawing hand, then one real object broken into 6 to 14 small steps, with light, shadow and texture done in pencil. A badge at the end of every day, a certificate at the end of the book.
Our first world is Starfall Academy, a wizard school where magic only works when it is drawn with care. Dinosaur and dragon worlds are on the way.
The books are designed for ages 6 to 12. Younger children follow a gentler path through each day, older ones take on a harder challenge, all in the same book, so brothers and sisters can draw side by side.
The first reader of every book is my own son. If a page doesn't work for him, it doesn't ship.
